Working with powerful memories of the distinctive desert landscape of my childhood,
my practice explores the psychological impact of remote spaces on the development of identity.
I choose materials for their inherent evocation of the high desert and manipulate them minimally;
their intrinsic properties drive the creative process.

My artwork is about heralding the spiritual and aesthetic qualities I discover in nature and the quotidian.
The meditations focus on ideas such as self-reflection, compassion, and gratitude.
Each work is a sanctum.

In my work I juxtapose Old and New Worlds.
The main focus is art as a process of self-awareness;
sometimes the self transpires into the work.
Although ontological, it does not portrait the self directly:
I am talking about the experience of being an embodied mind.

Using objects sourced from the suburban landscape,
such as paint chip samples from Home Depot and clothing from Ralph Lauren,
along with imagery and text appropriated from the Casual Encounters section of Craigslist,
I explore the dichotomy between public persona and private sexual behavior.

My work focuses on the dependent relationship between the whole
and the segment, and the fragile balance between order and disorder.
The functional aspect of the work serves to emphasize
the inevitable dependency of order and disorder in our everyday.

I accept – at last - that I may not be able to explain the meaning of my imagery.
There’s the wild and endless ocean of thoughts, feelings, knowledge, memories, desires,
needs, fears ever coursing in the mind – or heart – that an image attempts to fulfill.
And often these pieces are as riven as the time and scenes within a dream.
I’ve always wanted more than explanations anyway.
